Glenrosa fire on ireport



Tinder dry conditions and high winds resulted in a wildfire which quickly grew from 15 hectres to 200 hectres in a matter of hours. Air tankers and water carrying helicopters were quick to respond. As the fire grew in intensity, ground crews were pulled back for their safety. First count, 3 homes were destroyed as well as a major employer in the region, Gormann Brothers saw mill.The toll of the damage is sure to rise by morning

Thousands were evacuated from the region as with nightfall the fire was still out of control and the air assault was halted for the evening. This fire was quick to bring back memories of the Kelowna fire of 2005 where a city of 150,000 was poised for evacuation as an approaching fire destroyed many homes in it's path.
